Dear Wine Lovers and Club Members

Welcome to the second Château Boundary newsletter. Since launching the club we've had great fun hosting tastings, planning events and buying new wines – eagerly followed by the uncorking. Special thanks go to Doug Wregg from Les Caves de Pyrene for tutoring the "Spring Into Supper" event on Monday 14th June.

We are also grateful for the loyal support of our wine loving diners in Boundary Restaurant. In these supposedly austere times it is heartening to note that our sommeliers continue to pour some really fantastic wines. Equally, our "Magnums and More" initiative continues to be well-received. Amongst many others, we recently added the following wines to our large bottle collection;

Volnay Champans, 1er Cru, Marquis d'Angerville, 2002 – Double Magnum
Chateâu L'Evangile, Pomerol, 1999 – Jeroboam
Vougeot, 1er Cru, Les Cras, Domaine de la Vougeraie, 2001 – one of just 58 magnums produced

In advance of the "Wines From The New Millennium" tasting on Monday 27th September, Gabriel has been busy stocking the cellars with some interesting vintage 2000 bottles. However, we've also been adding the wines to our main restaurant list and they are selling very quickly. The tasting will include a minimum of 10 interesting wines. See the events page for further details on this tasting.

Following a few requests and a general desire to ensure that our wine list caters for both simple suppers and special occasions, we are just about to receive a few bottles from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and promise to keep the margins to relatively modest levels. A new feature on the wine list is a vertical of Château Le Dôme, St Emilion Grand Cru, the only single vineyard in Bordeaux with less than 2 hectares adjacent to Château Angelus. This micro cuvée, or garage wine, is the first totally terroir-driven Bordeaux with its first vintage produced in 1996.

Something for the future; there's a certain intrigue around our offices in regard to a recent offer from Olivier Leflaive. This renowned négociant is currently offering the opportunity to buy your own barrique (225 litres/25 cases of wine in an oak barrel) of Bourgogne Blanc, Montagny, Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet. The prices are very reasonable and anybody taking-up the offer gets a free nights' accommodation at the award winning hotel La Maison d' Olivier and a private tasting with the winemaker. This offer is in conjunction with Corney & Barrow and closes on the 7th July. Château Boundary members should contact C&B for more information on 020 7265 2430.

Château Boundary recently launched its own Twitter feed. See the website for further details. Gabriel, Rupert and the sommelier team will provide regular updates, tweeting and twittering on everything from the 2009 en primeur prices to the latest Nyetimber tasting and We're also working on a few random articles; Andrew Connor, our Kiwi head sommelier at Lutyens, will be writing about his love of German wines. And, in anticipation of the game season starting on 12th August, Gabriel will be talking about Chambolle-Musigny the perfect wine to accompany a plump grouse.

Finally, a little quiz, the first person to email the answer to the following question will receive 1 years honorary membership at Lutyens Club. The second and third people to email will receive a free bottle of champagne when next visiting Boundary or Lutyens.
