The Wine Files No.1
Chateau Boundary
Dear wine lover

Over recent months, Boundary Restaurant has hosted a range of interesting wine events and tastings, we’ve also expanded our cellars, introduced the ‘Magnums and More...’ initiative (see details below) and acquired some rather special grand cru and fantastic vintages. At the same time, our collection of eaux de vie has been extended and the pudding wine list now includes some lovely additions such as Château Lafaurie Peyraguey 1er Cru Classé, Sauternes, available by the glass. Although, the latter has proved more popular with the sauté de foie gras that was recently added to the menu – very decadent.

With all this vinous activity in mind, together with a few requests for extra tastings and our forthcoming winemaker dinners, we’ve started to think about a little network of loyal supporters that want to attend wine events and generally become more involved. So, this email announces the launch of Château Boundary our new wine club. Plans are simple at this stage – there is no membership fee, no obligations and nothing but interesting wine related news and activities. We plan to issue regular newsletter emails and will add to the existing wine page on the Boundary website. Further developments will be announced next month.

The following is a taste of the events, ideas and projects that we are currently planning. We’ve already received a few requests for ‘verticals’ together with various blind tasting events and these will appear in future months. In the meantime, please email us at if you have any further suggestions or simply want more details or maybe just ask a quick question before adding to your own private cellar.

Doug Wregg, of London’s leading wine merchant Les Caves de Pyrene, will be joining us on Monday, 14th June for a tutored tasting (and debate) with wines that perfectly reflect what we feel like drinking in the month of June. Think new season’s rosés, chilled reds, aromatic whites and frivolous fizz. Tickets are just £35 including all wines served with a selection of French country charcuterie and cheese. Email for further details. 7pm to 9.30pm in Boundary Restaurant private dining room.

All good connoisseurs know that wine tastes so much better in the right glass. Riedel have taken this maxim to the ultimate level with a unique glass for almost every known grape or wine. Lutyens Restaurant in partnership with the Chateau Boundary team are planning a unique event on Friday, 28th May when guests will be able to appreciate how the glass contributes to the aroma and taste and how to accentuate the characteristics of certain grape varieties. The event takes place at Lutyens and will include a drinks reception and three course dinner menu with a tutored tasting at £95, for Lutyens Club members at £75. Plus a special 20% discount with Riedel for anybody that wants to buy their glassware online. Email and we will confirm the promotional code details.

Every Monday night in Boundary Restaurant we lower the prices for all our wines in large format bottles, from magnums to jeroboams, everything is included. Of course, this doesn’t mean that only very expensive red Bordeaux wines are available. Everybody agrees that wine tastes better from large bottles, they look great on the table and you can also take the bottle home if you want – empty or half full, we don’t mind.

Boundary Restaurant lunch menu now includes the great value, and very quick, plat du jour and a glass of wine at £17.50.

The full a la carte menu and wine list is also available at lunch together with the £23.50 three course lunch menu.

When preparing my suggestions to accompany the daily changing plat du jour menu I try to include some new and exciting wines, mostly from the Languedoc, but also not too heavy, so that our diners can return to the office without rosy red cheeks.

Wines From The New Millennium
- we are currently finalising plans for a very special tasting in partnership with wine merchants Corney & Barrow. Wines from the new millennium 2000 – a fantastic vintage throughout France, how are they drinking after the first decade. The tasting will include wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy (we’ve already selected a Clos de Vougeot) and the Rhone. This event takes place in Boundary Restaurant private dining room on Monday, 27th September from 7pm. Price and other details to be confirmed shortly.

Corney and barrow

- not a great year, but a good year and a rare treat. Peter Prescott has gifted to our cellars 7 bottles of different 1970's Grand Cru Classé. We’ll also add a couple of bottles. This event will be a serious affair and places are limited. Wine writer and consultant Ray O’Connor together with Gabriel Danis will tutor the tasting that will take place in the Priscilla Carluccio suite at Boundary. A small and exclusive event, the tickets are just £95 – amazing value given the wines that will be available. Post tasting a game pie supper will be served. Tuesday, 5th October from 7pm.

We are always happy to create a special event just for you or your company or for a specific party. Tastings can be fun, educational, include a quiz or just Bacchanalian. These events can be held in the hotel bedroom suites (including overnight accommodation for the host) or in the private dining room. Email for further details.
