We hope you’ve enjoyed a vinous festive break and uncorked some great bottles. Equally, we trust all New Year resolutions involve improving personal wine knowledge and the consumption of superb wines throughout 2011. Our favourite maxim at these times is always: “Life is too short to drink bad wine.”

With the crazy season out of the way, it’s time to restart our regular tasting events. For the first event of the new calendar, we are very pleased to welcome back wine educator and Young Wine Writer of the Year 2007, Ray O’Connor, to host an evening we are calling “Three Varietals from Three Continents”.

This event focuses on the three main grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Ray will present three interesting wines made with these iconic varietals from three different continents. Opinion will be sought on the ‘expensive’ French example and the better-value versions with similar characteristics from the New World.

Throughout the evening Ray will offer tips and advice on how and where to buy the best wines – in retail and restaurant situations, how to recognize the best value and how to identify wines that suit your taste – ideal if you are planning to expand a personal wine cellar or simply want to order better wines when dining out.

The ticket price is £50pp, including an apéritif, nine tasting wines, a ‘mystery’ wine quiz and tasting canapés. Any guests who choose to stay for dinner will receive a 10% discount on the restaurant bill.

Apéritif served from 6.30pm, with the tasting starting at 7pm and ending around 9pm.
